About Handyman Cambridge

A direct booking line for one vetted, insured handyman working across Galt, Preston, Hespeler, Blair and Ayr.

Handyman Cambridge is a booking line. It is not a handyman company, and it is not a directory that sells your enquiry to a list of bidders. It connects to one local, insured handyman working across all of Cambridge: the century brick of Galt, the post-war bungalows of Preston, the mill-era houses and new subdivisions of Hespeler, the village of Blair, and Ayr and the rural properties of North Dumfries.

Small repairs are where homeowners get treated worst. Contractors do not return calls for a two-hour job. Some of the people who do return them are not insured, will quietly do electrical work they are not licensed for, charge a call-out fee that is most of the bill, or turn a sticking door into a pitch for new doors. Anyone who has tried to get a list of small jobs done in Cambridge has met at least one of those.

The point of this site is a straight line to a handyman who reads your list, prices it in writing before the visit, tells you plainly which items belong to a licensed electrician, plumber or gas fitter, shows up in the evening or on a Saturday if that is when you are home, and does careful work in houses that have been standing for a century as well as in ones that went up last year.

What we will not do: publish reviews we do not have, invent a rating or a star count, claim years in business this site does not have, say the handyman is licensed for trades that Ontario licenses separately, quote a fixed price on a website, or sell your phone number. This site is new. It says what it can do and nothing more.

What the handyman handles

• Home repairs and odd jobs: doors, drywall, trim, hardware, railings, small exterior fixes, furniture assembly, TV and mirror mounting
• Century-home small repairs: racked doors, plaster cracks, sash windows, matching old trim, original hardware, stairs and railings
• Minor bathroom and kitchen updates: vanities, faucets, toilets, showerheads, bath fans in the same location, cabinet hardware, caulking and grout, grab bars
• Caulking, weatherproofing and winter prep: exterior and interior sealing, sweeps and weatherstrip, storm door closers, attic hatch seals, outdoor taps, storm windows, downspouts
• Shelving, storage and garage organization: wall and overhead shelving, slat wall, closet systems, pantry and basement shelving, workbenches, mudroom hooks and benches

What it does not handle

The handyman is insured and WSIB-covered. The handyman is not a licensed electrician, plumber or gas fitter, and does not do their work. Wiring, switches, receptacles, circuits and fixture connections are for a licensed electrical contractor working with the Electrical Safety Authority. Gas lines, gas fireplaces, ranges and furnaces are for a TSSA-licensed gas fitter. Plumbing behind a wall, the drain stack, valve replacement and water heaters are for a licensed plumber. Full kitchen, bathroom and basement renovations, roofing, structural work, window replacement, insulation and junk hauling are other trades and other companies. Building permits and heritage questions belong to the City of Cambridge, and workplace coverage is through WSIB. You will be told when an item on your list belongs to someone else rather than have it done badly or quietly.

How this works

When you call 226-908-3689 or send the form with your list, your details go straight to the handyman. You get a written price for the list, with any licensed-trade items named as such, and a date and time window that works around your shift, including evenings and Saturdays. The work is done under the handyman's own insurance. Your information is not sold, not shared with a list of competing companies, and there is no markup added to your bill for the introduction.

What we won't do

• Publish reviews we didn't earn. When we have them, they'll be real ones with names.
• Quote a firm price before someone has seen the job.
• Send anyone into your property who we would not have in our own.
